Lode is a workout tracker for Android. This page explains what happens to your information. The short version: your training data never leaves your device. Lode has no servers, no account and no analytics, and its own code never makes a network request.
- No account
- No tracking
- No ads
- Stays on your phone
This policy covers the Lode app published on Google Play and the FOSS build distributed outside it.
What Lode collects
Nothing. Lode’s own code does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third-party tracking of any kind.
The one thing that leaves your device is the Lode Pro purchase, and only if you choose to buy it. That is described in the next section.
The Lode Pro purchase
On the Google Play build, Google Play Billing tells Lode whether you own Pro. Google processes the transaction itself — order, price, refunds, payment details — as the merchant, under Google’s privacy policy. Lode never receives your payment details, and no name or email address is passed to it. None of your workouts, measurements, photos or other training data is involved.
Lode only learns whether Pro is owned. Google keeps the transaction record.
What you create stays on your device
Everything you enter — workouts, sets, routines, body measurements, progress photos, notes, and the name and avatar you can give your profile — is stored in the app’s private storage on your phone. It is not uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Lode also opts out of Android’s automatic cloud backup, so none of it is copied to Google Drive either. The one exception is a direct device-to-device transfer that you start yourself when setting up a new phone (by cable or local Wi-Fi): Android can then copy Lode’s data straight to your new device, because that move is between your own phones.
Network access
Lode comes in two builds, and they differ in exactly one way: whether the optional Lode Pro purchase goes through Google Play.
The Google Play build includes Google’s Play Billing library, so
that you can buy Lode Pro with a one-time in-app purchase. That library declares the
INTERNET permission and talks to the Google Play Store app on your phone to
show the price, make the purchase and confirm it later. Google handles the payment; Lode
never sees your payment details. Google may also receive technical information about the
billing library’s operation, which is covered by
Google’s privacy
policy. None of your workouts, measurements, photos or other data is ever part of that:
Lode’s own code makes no network requests, and the only thing it asks Google Play is
whether you own Lode Pro.
The FOSS build (distributed outside Google Play) has no billing library
and does not declare the INTERNET permission at all. It is technically
incapable of sending anything over a network, which you can verify in Android’s
app-info screen.
Permissions, and why each one exists
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
VIBRATE |
Haptic feedback when you complete a set and when the rest timer ends. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
To alert you when a rest period finishes. Optional — you can decline, and the in-app timer still works. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICEFOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE |
Keeps the rest-timer countdown running while the app is in the background, so the alert fires on time. |
WAKE_LOCK |
Keeps the processor awake for exactly the length of a rest period, so the alert is on time with the screen off. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATERECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Added by Android’s WorkManager, which keeps the home-screen widget up to date and restores it after a restart. They let the system check whether a network is present and know when the phone has booted; neither gives the app network access. |
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Android 9 only, and only if you allow it. Lets automatic backups write their copy to the Documents folder; Android 10 and later need no permission for that. |
com.android.vending.BILLINGINTERNET |
Google Play build only. Used by Google’s billing library for the optional Lode Pro purchase, as described above. |
Lode requests no other permissions.
Lode Pro
Lode Pro is an optional one-time purchase. It adds a progression coach, muscle balance, monthly and yearly reports, and full-length progress charts. The coach, muscle balance and the reports are worked out on your phone from your own history, like everything else in Lode; nothing is sent anywhere to produce them.
Whether you own Pro is remembered on your device; on the Google Play build it is also confirmed with Google Play, so it comes back on a new phone signed in to the same Google account. If a purchase is refunded, Pro is switched off again; nothing you logged is affected.
Backups and exports
Lode can export a JSON file containing your data, and import one. It can also import workout history from a CSV file exported by Strong or Hevy. When you export, Android’s file picker lets you choose where that file goes — your device, cloud storage, wherever. That choice and that file are entirely under your control; Lode plays no part in where it ends up.
Automatic backups (on unless you switch them off in Settings) write the same file to the Documents/Lode folder on your phone after each workout, so your history survives Lode being uninstalled. They stay on your phone: Lode never uploads them. Like anything in Documents, other apps you have given access to your files can read them, and if your phone’s own backup copies your Documents folder somewhere, they go with it.
Your rights
Because Lode holds no personal data about you, there is nothing for the developer to export, correct or erase on your behalf. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored.
Purchase records are held by Google as the merchant; requests about those go to Google. If you have a question about anything on this page, write to the address below.
Children
Lode is not directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top.
Contact
Lode is developed by an independent developer based in Croatia.
